2023 May – Disney World (Post-Cruise)

Savana view from Animal Kingdom Lodge room

We did something totally different for us this time! We splurged on a one night stay at the Animal Kingdom Lodge to cap off our milestone birthday/anniversary extravaganza! This has been a bucket list stay for a long time now, so this was a perfect time to do it!

But first, let’s back up. When we got back to Orlando (about noon) after getting off the cruise, our room wasn’t ready yet, so we drove to Animal Kingdom Park instead.

We had lunch at Tiffins! We went there once, many years ago, so we wanted to try it more now. Luckily, we got a reservation. They’re pretty hard to come by.

Note: If you can’t get a reservation, you can try to walk up or check the MDE app to see if the Nomad Lounge next door has any openings. You can order a bunch of the Tiffins menu items from the lounge too.

We just wanted something light this time, so we decided to share the whole fried fish. It looks crazy but was really good. So crispy n flavorful! Check this out!

If this is too crazy for you, there are plenty of standard items too. The restaurant is decorated with all sorts of artifacts from the imagineers’ trips to the Everest areas. Walk around the restaurant to see them.

After lunch, we did the Flight of Passage and safari rides, and just did a leisurely walk around the park before heading over to the Animal Kingdom Lodge. They texted that our room was ready!

As many times as we’ve been here to eat, we still feel awestruck whenever we walk into the Animal Kingdom Lodge. It’s so majestic! And this time, it feels even more special since we get to stay there instead of visiting for a restaurant only.

We lucked out with an awesome savana view room right in the middle of the main area! We saw zebras and other animals walk about 20 feet from our balcony on the 2nd floor! So cool! We just stared out at the Savana for at least an hour and took a million pictures!

Alas, we had to leave the room since it was time for our dinner reservation. But we were excited too to go to our favorite buffet at Disney, Boma, right down from our room!

There is such a variety of foods at this buffet, but nothing is really too wierd or exotic either. We especially love the soups. Yummm! And don’t forget to save room for dessert – ayce zebra domes!

After dinner, we went back to the room to watch the animals in the Savana again. LoL

The next morning, we sadly had to check out and unfortunately, most of the big animals don’t go out to the savana til about noon, so we only saw a few birds this time. But, it was still an awesome stay at the lodge. We loved it!

After leaving the room, we grabbed a quick lunch at The Mara, the quick service restaurant there. They had some delicious looking rice bowls that caught our eye when we were exploring the lodge yesterday. After eating, we can confirm that they actually do taste delicious too.

Well, we still had a few hours before we had to leave for the airport, so we decided to go to Disney Springs real quick just to see if there’s anything new at the World of Disney store and then hop over to EPCOT to cap off our trip.

We were able to still buy an Individual Lightning Lane pass for the Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind ride. It’s so fun! This is another ride that works like Tron. It only had a virtual queue or Individual Lightning Lane pass. You can’t just walk up to it and get on a standby line.

After getting one last snack, a Leige waffle (very good), we had to work our way out of the park. This leg was short but awesome.

The whole trip was amazing! We experienced so many new restaurants, rides, and resorts and got to sail on the Wish! What an awesome way to celebrate some special occasions!

I hope you had fun following along too! Til the next trip!
