Today’s the day that we should make it to California and the West Coast!
Day 9
We start off bright and early on our final day to the West Coast. On the way out, we stopped at another Love’s gas station near the motel. We love Love’s!
The stores have so much stuff, good food, and clean bathrooms. If you get their reusable coffee mugs, the refills are cheaper too. Download the app and sign up for their loyalty card. You’ll get 10¢ off per gallon of gas and coupons for other stores purchases as well.
Other gas station brands have similar programs too. I definitely recommend signing up to them for some savings on your next trip.

We drove on “The Loneliness Road in America”, Route 50 West, as we go from Ely towards Lake Tahoe. Whoever came up with that name was certainly correct. It was miles and miles of literally nothing around. The road just weaves through mountains and valleys, so there were constant elevation climbs and decents. Lots of ear popping. Every so often, another car will appear in the distance but that’s it. Very lonely indeed! Fun to drive though! I think the speed limit was around 85 mph for some stretches!

There were lots of cool scenery along the way though.

After a few lonely road hours, we finally reach Lake Tahoe and crossed into California!!

We stopped at Kings Beach, a cute little state beach along Lake Tahoe, for a bit. Look at these gorgeous views!

Ok, let’s continue on toward San Francisco and the West Coast. Just driving to the hotel this evening…
We’ll start exploring the coast tomorrow. Goodnight!

Day 10
Ahhhh, the gorgeous California coast! We spent the day driving the stretch of Highway 1 between San Francisco down to just a little past Monterey, stopping at a few scenic points.

Of course, while in California, we must also have some In-n-Out, right? Yummm! This is always one of the must-do’s when we’re here.

Day 11
We start heading into Northern California to explore the beautiful waterfalls up there.

Mostly just driving today… Lots of beautiful views along the way, though.
Do you know about the Black Bear Diner?
Apparently, they’re very popular in California. We just happened to stop here for dinner when we got to the Mt Shasta area. We didn’t know how famous they were beforehand, but we understand now. Good old-fashioned home cooking! So delicious! This is a nice family-friendly diner. Make sure to look for one of their locations when you’re in California.

And yes, that’s a giant bear claw pastry. It was gigantic! We were too full for dessert there but we still had to get one to go. Yum!
It was dark by now, so we’ll start exploring the waterfalls tomorrow.
Good night!
