Valley Forge National Historical Park

Valley Forge National Historical Park

To celebrate the 2023 National Park Week, as mentioned in my post yesterday, I am starting a series featuring a different national park each day this week.

To kick things off, we took a trip to Valley Forge National Historical Park!

It features grand meadows and rolling hills that are perfect for picnicking, hiking, biking, running, etc. Along the way, you can see the recreations of the log cabins and huts that the soldiers lived in when they were here, as well as many monuments that commemorate their struggle.

There’s also a cute Visitors Center where you can see the exhibits and watch the movie to learn more about this park. Definitely stop by to see if there are any ranger-led activities that day and get a map for the driving tour around the park.

This area marked the turning point of the Revolutionary War, as this was where the American Continental Army, under George Washington, came together as a strengthened fighting force. Valley Forge NHP commemorates the 1777-1778 winter encampment story and their struggle to survive under terrible odds.

The park is located in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania, which is about 10 minutes down the street from the huge King of Prussia Mall, if you would like to roll in some retail therapy with your day trip, and about 45 minutes west of Philadelphia. There are several arboretums nearby as well, if you want to check out my past post about the numerous arboretums in the Philadelphia area. You can also go farther west to visit Gettysburg Historical Park, have some amusement park fun at Hershey Park, enjoy some home cooking by the Amish in Lancaster, and more. There are tons of things you can do if you want to build a trip to the Philadelphia area and surrounding suburbs.

Other places in the area.

Feel free to contact me if you would like to chat about planning a trip here.
